My wife and I took my visiting parents here because we had heard good things and it's close by. From start to finish, this was among the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long time (my folks echoed this sentiment). Impeccable service (drinks were never empty, plates were cleared quickly), great food (best Chicken Parmigiana my wife has had in a while), and enormous portions. In fact, the portions are so large that two adults splitting a single plate would be completely reasonable. Yes, it's pricier than other chains, but the value is so much better because of the ambience, service, and food quality. Larger, kitschier chain restaurants have entrees running from $9-$18 and Charleston's offerings range from $12-$25 (if memory serves). Not a big difference for the significant bump in overall quality. We'll be back...frequently.

charleston's was an overall good experience. for the type of food offered i thought it was a bit pricey especially for something as simple as chicken strips. it was a pretty busy restaurant when a friend and i had dinner here one weekend. the service was great even after our waitress ended her shift and a new waiter took over our area. although the dining area looks romantic with the dim lighting and dark wood finishes, it was fairly noisy. i can't say that it's the first place that i'll think of when i'm in the area but a great alternative if you want to stay away from the places located closer to the mall.

Yes-I've branched out a little bit from the west end chicken a few times... Charlestons! your ribs are so yummy! so tender! the california sandwich is so good! and huge. Chicken salad..ohhhh yes. Caesar salad----YUM. Croissants that are so bad for you----YUM x 2. everything is good, consistant, and a great place to keep going back to. Oh-and the servers are always VERY nice and they are talkative when you ask them questions. They never, ever...well, almost ever, let your glass get empty. Sometimes you even have too many glasses of tea waiting for you to drink. Note: They recently re-vamped the menu, and it's still good. They did take off the west end chicken (SAD) but will still usually make it for us, so that is always good. Also, the parmesan chicken is delicious, especially that little salad that comes with it.

I frequent this establishment often due to close proxity. Anything here is great for lunch and the waitstaff is awesome. In fact, you're likely to have many different people wait on you. At night, Charleston's offers a romantic setting and their margaritas are quite unique.

So Charleston's was a strong contradiction to me when it came to what to expect when sitting down. The entire restaurant is decorated in dark, rich hardwoods, the staff dressed in all black, and the interior darkened- no matter the time of day. Then there's the menu and it consists of nothing but comfort food that I would never expect from the surroundings. The menu is relatively small, comprised of maybe 20 to 25 choices total, and has a rotating soup of the day choice. So our service was, well, confusing... Our server seemed to be very aware of our drink refill needs and was attentive, but its like if the training program at the restaurant involves brainwashing of some assortment. No matter who the person was that approached the table to drop off appetizers, drinks, or entrees, we thanked every single one of the people that brought it. Literally, every person that brought something (which was like at least four different ones), gave us absolutely no response, no smile, no "You're Welcome." Their facial expressions never changed. It was as if they were programmed to be expressionless and socially removed. Thank goodness we didn't order the Kool-aid for drinks! The food was decent at best... My chicken sandwich was a bit dry and greasy and my date's ribs were alright, but her chicken tenders a bit overcooked. The portion sizes look huge and like they justify the price, but it reality, it was just a ton of fries piled on the plate around the sandwich. Same with my date's combination plate: we must have had nearly a pound of fries each! Suffice to say, we took a lot to go, though mostly fries. For the quality of the meal for the price, I guess its about what could be expected. For the casual diner, not a bad place to try out, but for us, probably not a repeat trip before we continue to make our rounds through the Metroplex...

Most of the comments here get it correct, good quality, huge portions, and reasonably priced for what you're getting. What I would add is that the kids menu has a couple of gems, in particular the kid's steak. It's reasonable at $6 or $6.50 and is a great cut of meat, and plenty large for a 10-year old boy that likes steak from time to time, particularly when he comes to Charleston's. We're fans of the place, patronize it once every other month or so, and have yet to be disappointed in the food or the service. Again, not cheap but priced well for what you get.

This is a neighborhood gem and will always provide a wonderful dining experience. The food, atmosphere and service are first class all the way. Whether an intimate date night, casual outing, business lunch or special occasion this will be a memorable time. The food is simply incredible regardless of what you have. The salmon is the best I have had. The salads are simply amazing. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better they have now added a Chicken Waldorf salad that will blow you away. The croissants provoke the omg eye roll and you have to fight off the urge to have another. The servers are very attentive while unobtrusive and I just cannot say enough good things about them. My friends and I are in love with place!! Their pork chop (2 HUGE pork chops with sides) is one of the best I've ever had and the service is always great!! Any of their sides are good as well. Servers are not static and cooperate with each other, so any and all servers are always taking care of the guests. When we had to wait for a little longer to get an appetizer served one time (which we didn't even think that we were waiting long because we were enjoying talking with friends), the manager came right away and informed us that the appetizer would be on them due to the wait which was about 15-20 minutes. Also, their orange juice is freshly squeezed in-house! Oh and the margaritas are AMAZING!!!!!! They are so smooth, and fresh I love them!

From the hostess that was the complete opposite of "I love my job", to the server that never refilled my tea, or bothered to ask if we needed much of anything but our food, Charleston's truly disappointed me. The smoked salmon was good, not $19 good, but had a nice smokey flavor and a chipotle flavored tarter sauce that I enjoyed. Dad was less than satisfied with his $14 chicken fried steak. He said "I wouldn't give .14 cents for it!" We won't be back. It's too bad because the crescent rolls with honey butter are delish! :(

This place sets the standard in what service should be! The prices are a little bit high, but the food and level of service make it well worth while. I've been a couple times and i've had steak (best i've ever had) and a country fried chicken (which wasn't even on the menu) The glazed carrots are amazing! Im not much of a salad person, but i couldn't get enough of it! Like I said earlier, the service is amazing! They work in teams, so your glass never goes empty, and your food never waits in the kitchen for your waiter to come and get it. The Charleston's franchise has quickly been added to my list of favorite restaurants.

On a business trip to Texas this week and I was craving roasted chicken. I first went to Charleston's in Arizona and it has become my favorite for their chicken and rib combo. Absolutely incredible garlic roasted to perfection, ribs that just fall off the bone. Then to end the night I always get the key lime pie, it is some of the best I've ever had. Probably a million calories for the pie but once in a while it's worth it once in a while. Love this place

This is the best place to get steaks. I moved to California about 6 years ago and have tried many foods there. Texas still has the best steaks and Charleston's has always been a favorite of mine since 1999. Service is always satisfying. At Charleston's they really serve their customers well. Not on the menu, but ask for the Hawaiian Sirlon Steak.

First, great atmosphere--like a more intimate BJ's Brewhouse. I think another reviewer mentioned being attended to by multiple servers and we had the same experience--I think we encountered about 4 different servers before our dinner was complete. Here's why this place is only 3 stars for us and not really worth venturing to again: Me: reuben sandwich with fries *very bland--the sauerkraut did not have any real taste and neither did the thousand island dressing (which appeared to be from scratch); I asked for spicy mustard to dip the sandwich into and the best they had was dijon *fries were the best part: crispy exterior, soft interior Husband: grilled pork chop dinner with mashed potatoes and smokehouse beans *pork chops under seasoned and pretty fatty *beans pretty good *mashed potatoes were the best part They were pretty busy (and this was a Tues night) and the server didn't ask us if we wanted dessert-just dropped off the bill. Overall, it was fun to try out a new place but I can get a much better reuben sandwich elsewhere.

One word...The SALMON! Oh My Goodness with those Garlic Mashed Potatoes, OH MY!! The OVEN ROASTED CHICKEN, potatoes and baked beans are to die-for as well. I spent a full day apartment hunting and was nearly delirious when I wandered into Charleston's. The menu had a lot of tasty looking options and I went with the chicken fried steak, because after all, I was in Texas. It was sooooo delicious. Also a ridiculously large portion. I was a little disappointed that the one healthy thing on my plate (carrots) was glazed in something sugary, but at least it tasted good. This is the only restaurant I've been to where the house salad is like a cobb salad (bacon, egg, croutons, cheese). And oh my, the buttery sweet croissant that came with the salad was heavenly.

This is a consistently good place to eat. Service can be a bit spotty, but it has large, tasty portions. Of particular note are the barbeque baby-back ribs (beef), chicken tenders, caesar salads, and the coissants (which are sweet and delicious). I really like that you can substitute out the sides which come with each meal (usually two) as I really like the garlic mashed potatoes and the coleslaw - but that's just me. A disappointing beer selection, but there is a patio which on a moderately cool evening can be quite pleasant although it overlooks Hulen.

Charlestons used to be a great place to eat when I first went there back in the early 90's and it still has pretty good service at lunch time. During the past few years, however, the management has instituted some changes in service policy that make eating at Charlestons an almost unbearable experience. Don't get me wrong. The food is still good enough to warrant an occasional visit, but the waitpersons have apparently been taught to treat the customers with incredible rudeness. In fact, these waitpersons have become the rudest young people I've ever experienced anywhere. Apparently, they've been trained by their managers to interrupt the customers constantly with unsolicited additional glasses of iced tea and constant interruptions of unnecessary questions. For example, when you first arrive, there are a minimum of four young ladies who greet you at the podium with a loud and aggressive chorus of "Good evening! Will there be two of you for dinner?" Being greeted this way is so ridiculous that it's actually funny! This chorus of greetings reminds one of going to a brand new McDonald's back in 1970 when there were obviously not enough customers yet and the management had trained all the counter help to shout out "May I help you?" simultaneously toward any customer who was unfortunate enough to open the door. Back to Charlestons, once you get past the hilarious gauntlet of greeters, one of the hostesses then takes you to your table. When you sit down, a waitress or waiter immediately asks you what you want to drink and then tells you about all the specials. After you ask for something to drink, like iced tea, the waitperson immediately tries to push the many fattening hors d'oevres. Assuming you convince them that you really don't want anything extra, they let you place your order and the food usually arrives fairly quickly. However, if you thought you were actually going to be able to eat in peace with your companion, forget it. Every 2 minutes, a waitperson will interrupt you with more glasses of iced tea that you don't need or want or with a constant series of questions about whether everything is OK or whether you want anything else. It is impossible to have any kind of conversation with your dinner companions because in addition to the extra iced tea glasses appearing every few minutes, and the constant barage of questions, there are also arms reaching between you constantly to bring the aforementioned multiple glasses of tea or to retrieve your salad bowls, bread plates, or whatever other excuse they can use as an interruption. I've actually been holding a sandwich in my hand when the aggressive waitpersons have grabbed my plate off the table. Tonight, I had partially eaten my salad when the waitperson grabbed the bowl and took it away without asking me if i was finished with it. In short, the service at this restaurant is HORRIBLE!!!! Yes, I've complained to the manager in the past, but he said that these changes were "corporate policy." Interestingly, my husband and I have eaten out at excellent restaurants all over Ft. Worth and we have NEVER been treated as rudely by the waitpersons at any other restaurant. Maybe Charlestons will consider changing its policy of interruptions if Yelp stimulates a response.

This review is based on one experience so I can't say the food is always this good. I ordered the salmon and it was easily the best fish I have ever eaten. It tasted fresh, was cooked perfectly and the side mustard sauce was a great compliment to the salmon. Will go again next time I am in the Fort Worth area.

Just around the corner, but whether you live in the neighborhood or not, it's a great destination. Friendly, competent staff, and probably the best salad and soup prep I've ever experienced (seriously, how often due you remember the plain soup and salads of the restaurants you visit? I go to Charlestons just for the potato soup sometimes.) The menu items are pricier than most chains you might have a family dinner at, but the quality of food means you will never regret paying a few dollars more. Steaks and fish entrees are among the best I've ever had, and you have a high bar of quality to meet when you cook meat in Texas. If you aren't usually a fish person, try the grilled salmon here, and you might just change your mind. The ambiance is good, classic and dim, even if the building gets a bit loud with meal rush capacity. Still, it isn't as raucous as a full sports bar.

Great place, limited menu, and everything is awesome! The must try is the shrimp cargot.... Just order it!!!! The steaks are fresh, LOVE LOVE LOVE their ranch dressing. The sides are very good, and don't you dare get out of there without trying their honey butter croissants!! Place is dark, quite, reasonably priced with a cool low key bar area. Service is always great. I truly cannot find one thing wrong with this place. So why not 5 stars? Because only the truly remarkable gets 5, but this place is a solid 4.5 stars.

We tried Charleston's for the first time last night! After driving past it a thousand times we decided to give it a try, and we're so glad we did. We didn't know what to expect going in. The atmosphere was more upscale than we were expecting, but still laid back. The hostesses were very quick to seat us and polite. The service was top knotch. We had numerous members of the waitstaff serving us. The manager came over after our meal and made sure we had enjoyed everything, and we had. We had the catfish plate and the parm chicken. Both delicious! My favorite thing was the mozarella and tomato salad with field greens that came with my parm chicken. It was the star of my plate. The waiter suggested that I sub the pasta for mashed potatoes, and I regret that I didn't follow his instruction. Lesson learned for next time. I think I would have enjoyed the dish with potatoes over the pasta. The coleslaw on the catfish plate was good and tasted fresh. The tartar sauce wasn't outstanding. All in all, we will return eventually. May not be a regular restaurant on our list, but still two thumbs up!

We've at at Charleston's several times before. It's a nice casual place with a date night atmosphere. They've gone up in price over the last few years. I've had their steaks, pork chops, chicken and fish. I've always liked their steaks. Loved their pork chops. This last time we came I got the half roasted chicken and wasn't very thrilled with it. Not flavorful or moist at all. However, everything I've had other than that has been good. They did have a chicken plate that had the chicken smothered in havarti cheese on it. It was sooo good, but they took it off the menu. Service can be slow here. They also have a gluten free menu.

I've only been here twice, but I like Charleston's. There are a lot of yummy items on the menu, and I'm eager to go back to Charleston's to try them all! Both of my visits have been with staff members, so I've been able to see some of the different lunch items they serve. On my most recent visit I got the chicken fried steak. By the by, the portions here are huge!I I had enough to take half home for dinner. My chicken fried steak was tender, flavorful, and I loved the crunchy - cheery breaking. The chicken fried steak is served with glazed carrots and mashed potatoes. So yummy! The mashed potatoes are rustic style with little bits of potato skin, and the carrots are sweet but not too sweet. I was surprised at how much I liked the glazed carrots. I could eat those over and over. I also tried a croissant and it was soft and buttery. My coworkers rave about the baked potato soup! I had it the last time I visited and it was really good. It is creamy and thick with bits of potato, and it is topped with a cute little mound of green onions, bacon, and cheese. There is a lunch option you can do where you get soup and salad, and it's a decent size bowl of soup and decent sized salad. The sandwiches are also big enough for you to eat half and take the other half home. The chicken avocado club is yummy also. The service is also great. Our server was really friendly, attentive, and even made us laugh! He also asked us if we wanted drinks to go, which I thought was a nice touch. I will definitely be back!

Charlestons is a great place for a business lunch or dinner, or a date night. The atmosphere is very nice but casual. You wouldn't feel out of place in a suit here, or even shorts at lunchtime. The menu ranges from standard American classics to Italian, to seafood. Something definitely for everyone. On the last occasion I went, I had the Champagne Chicken salad, instead of Chicken though, I had Salmon (this was recommended by our waiter). It was probably the most filling salad I have ever had. It was full of fruit and feta, and came with a hefty portion of Salmon on top. Service was great as well, and prices seemed reasonable for what you get. Everyone in our group of 7 mentioned how good their food was. Portions are very generous. Looking forward to eating here again!

I've been meaning to write this review for a while, but really dislike negativity and leaving one stars, but this place deserves it. When we walked in we were greeted by the manageress, who wanted to seat us inside, but we asked if we could sit outside. This was a problem for her and told us to just walk outside and look for ourselves as it was open seating. We waited a while for service to come to us, who proceeded with our drinks order but forgot to bring the menus. We can deal with slow service on a very busy night, but this was a week night and not overly busy. When we ordered and our food arrived I wasn't happy with the chicken fried steak and sent it back, asking for something different. The waiter was okay about this but the manager brought out my new dish and approached the table and said 'oh it's you'. She was very condensing and rude. Our waiter became very lax, forgot our second drink order and just threw the bill at us, he had no interest, he then came back to say he had given us the wrong bill and charged our card at the higher amount before we even checked the bill. I was very dissatisfied with this restaurant and wouldn't recommend it, due to the poor service and rude manager.

Food is okay. However, it is so loud - too many screaming children. The last (and it will be the LAST) time we were there, we arrived early for dinner and were seated. Then a very young couple with 2 toddlers were seated right next to us despite there being plenty of empty tables. The kids kept shrieking and banging on the table/highchair. The parents did nothing and the staff did nothing. We asked our waitress to move us. She disappeared, finally came back, said we would have to wait. They then moved us next to a crying baby (out of spite?) The prices are kind of high for a McDonald's atmosphere. This was a week night - maybe another time would have been better, but I don't want to risk it.

Pretty traditional "we do everything" pad site restaurant on Hulen near TCU. 4-5 starters, 4-5 salads, 3-4 fish, chicken and steak dishes. Charleston scan get crowded, so we went early (5:30) for our party of 6 and got right in. Pretty stable wine and beer selection. I had a Shiraz waiting for my party, not too good, tasted like bottle had been open for quite some time. The menu has something for everyone, and the service and promptness of the food coming out of the kitchen was fantastic. I had a 8 oz top sirloin that was cooked well, but not a high quality piece of meat. For entree and dessert, it's going to run $30-$35 per person, which is not bad in today's restaurant scene. Portions are pretty big, so be prepared to share or take home the proverbial doggy bag. There is a nice cozy bar just off the hostess desk that makes a nice destination if you have to wait for your table. Seems like a great place to bring family (including kiddo's) for dinner, and everyone will walk out full and satisfied.

I haven't been to this place in about 20 years now. I ordered the chicken tenders which in my opinion could be a lot better. The glazed carrots are exceptionally good! The Southwest beans are really good too! For dessert, I got the apple cobbler which in my opinion, could be a whole lot better for the price. In my opinion, they need more ice cream on top of the apple cobbler to wake up the flavor of the apple cobbler so you won't be disappointed in the dull taste that is has to it. The ice cream was really good though. Service is still good there. I may or may not be back at all. I'm not 100 percent certain at this moment.

I visit Fort Worth frequently so I'm always looking for a good steak in Texas. One of my local co-workers highly recommended Charlestons for steak. I read the reviews and it looked like a winner. Sadly, it was a big disappointment. I had the 10 oz. Sirloin (I don't like a side of beef on a plate) and it was - honestly - worse than Outback. The meat was of poor quality (sorry to gross you out, but I couldn't chew and swallow it was so gristly, so much was left on my plate). The flavor was not cardboard, but close. In short, very disappointing. If they can't do a simple cut of meat adequately, then there's gotta be problem. Don't see how they get all the rave reviews.

All in all, our experience was very good. The food and service were great. My only complaint was that we had reservations and there was still a 20+ minute wait to get seated. I realize that things can be unpredictable in the restaurant biz, and it did not help that there were two parties of 10 or more so that didn't work in our favor. After we were seated, things took a definite upturn. Forrest, our server, was very efficient. I had the Walt's Champagne Chicken Salad, w/o croutons, which was delicious. I typically like more veggies in my salad but this was nice for a change. It had pineapple, dates, strawberries, sunflower seeds, pineapple, feta, spiced pecans and chicken. The chicken had a slight smokey flavor which was great. I also had them put the dressing on the side because salads swimming in dressing is NOT my thing. There could have been a tad more feta but what was a pleasant surprise were the dates. Dates are not my fav but these were smaller & not near as sugary. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with fries and the Texas Chili as an appetizer. He really enjoyed the sandwich and liked the chili however he prefers more beans in his chili. Our friends shared the Parmesan Crusted Chicken and they enjoyed their meal, commenting how good it was. All in all, I would go again however I do wish they had more healthy options. I am gluten-free, by choice, and there weren't very many choices...IMHO. I also like heathy vegetable dishes without all of the sauces, etc. Charleston's is more like Southern home cooking. Nothing against that, just not my thing.

My wife and I went to Charleston's last night. We were pretty happy with the good and service. We had a 5 minute wait and were promptly seated. Ordering went well except for a few issues My wife cannot have pork and mentioned this to the server. When she ordered the New England Clam Chowder, he didn't mention the bacon that was in the soup. I ordered a Prime Rib - medium. It came out red - cooked basically rare. Sent it back and it was cooked properly at that point. I believe the manager brought that back to our table. Bread pudding we ordered to go with us and tried a bit before we left. It was ok - nothing amazing. Overall this place was good but nothing that amazed me. I would definitely go back but not a "special" place.

Another reviewer noted that the service is "hit or miss," and that sums up our recent experiences. We've been to Charleston's many, many times, but noticed on our last few visits that there was a tremendous rush to get us out the door. Our wound-up waiter Forrest promised to give us "extra time" to get a look at the menu and decide if we'd have appetizers or not, but kept bugging us every 3-4 minutes. Finally I decided to order a drink, and suddenly he was nowhere to be found. Once we flagged him down - gabbing with a larger party nearby, hence bigger tip - we ordered drinks and food, and asked for the food order to please be delayed. Of course, that didn't happen - everything arrived at once, so I had to choose between a cold entree and watered-down drink. As soon as the food was on the table, he was interrupting constantly. "How's that tasting? How's that tasting? How's that tasting?" My chicken was overcooked and I said so, but he made no effort to bring me anything different. We asked him to please TAKE A BREATH and give us a minute, and again he made no effort to slow his roll. Scott, the manager, is always helpful, but I don't think the he understood why I was so frustrated, and I don't think the idea of customer service always trickles down to the wait staff. Was very sick the next day after eating the chicken. I've always loved Charleston's and I want to go back, but it's going to take awhile for me to get over my fear of being run over at 100 miles an hour.

We tried their French dip and chicken Cobb salad. Both were good but not exceptional Total with tip was almost $50 which hit me as a bit much for our meal.

I really can't believe I haven't tried Charlestons sooner. Delicious, upscale, comforting food. Walked in on a weekday for lunch and the place was pretty crowded. We were greeted and seated very quickly in a nice, comfy booth. The ambiance is a bit dark but very classy. I glanced over the wine menu quickly and the selection seemed decent. The menu is homey, American food featuring burgers, salads, protein entrees with your standard sides, soups and limited appetizers. Nothing seemed to really catch my eye so I opted for a Salmon Caesar Salad, salmon cooked med rare, and the friend got a Chicken Fried Steak. The salmon was cooked perfectly - tender and juicy, and had some kind of sauce on it. My salad came with a warm buttery croissant. I wish we got a basket full of them. There was some sort of honey drizzled on top. Heavenly. I'm assuming the chicken fried steak was amazing as well since nothing was left on the plate. Service seemed rushed, but still attentive and friendly. Parking wasn't an issue. I'm not wowed by the food but it's good quality so I'll probably be back.

This specific restaurant has become our "very special occasion" go-to. The food is always fantastic, and the ribs especially are a favorite. However, it is the service which absolutely blows us away every time. Really nice place - dim, comfortable atmosphere would be great for a date I imagine. Food was surprisingly good - and came in larger portions than expected. A croissant came w the caesar salad and was delicious -- best I've ever had actually, tho I don't know if they always come fresh from the oven. Salad was too peppery for my liking tho, but still good. The pork chops were very thick and quite hefty, very good overall. The mashed potatoes looked fancy, and I suppose they were good but just didn't work for me. The glazed carrots on the other hand were as amazingly superb as the croissant was. I'll definitely be getting those again! I would have liked to have tried a fish item but the soup follows a daily plan -- I'll have to come back on a Friday to try the clam chowder. And unfortunately tilapia was the fish of the day, which would have been great, but not at $22.... I'll be returning soon to try the other options though as there are a number of tasty sounding menu items.

I have eaten here many times, lunch, dinner, weekday, weekend. It has always been perfect. The menu is wonderful. Their Prime Rib is as good as any Fort Worth, and that's saying a lot. Service has always been attentive, plesant, and as much the crowd allows at a good pace. I have worked in restaurants in New York City, I know the drill.... CHARLESTON'S is top of the class, handling their crowds. IF you haven't had their Potato Soup, or glazed carrots you have twin delights awaiting you. BELIEVE ME, you will not find BETTER ANYWHERE. My nephews swear by the chicken fried stea, again a Fort Worth staple and they do it very well. The house salad is special. there is a spot on the upper level that can get loud, but I find the seating very comfortable. Don't "buy" the negative comments, try them for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

When we walked into Charlestons, the hostess "greeted" us with a bad attitude. There were 6 of us, and we had called ahead to make sure there wouldn't be a problem seating us without notice and were told it would be just fine. But as soon as I told her we were a party of 6, she copped this big attitude...as if it were a big inconvenience for us to come into the restaurant in such a large group. I'm pretty sure the more people who come to dine, the more money the restaurant makes... The prime rib I ordered was cold to the touch, but our waitress cultivated a somewhat hostile environment so I didn't feel comfortable sending it back. When my sister asked if there were free refills on iced tea the server responded "if you order another one" in a snotty tone. Lots of little things like that added up quickly to make my birthday dinner a lot less enjoyable. Food was high quality for what I could tell of my other guests' dishes. Just wish the staff had been more welcoming.

It was my first time here for a friend's birthday celebration and overall, the restaurant is really good! The atmosphere and the layout really reminded me of Hillstone in Dallas-- the booths, dimmed/dark surroundings, candle-lit, and how you can see the prep area and the kitchen right by the dining area. It was not a busy night so our servers were pretty attentive to our party of about 20 people... however, we were seated 20 minutes late from the original reservation time because our table was not ready. Price: averagely priced menu items. Entree is about $15-$20/person. Appetizer: I opt out from their appetizer list and just ordered a cup of baked potato soup. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but definitely full of flavor! Also, my entree came with the house salad and oh my gosh, the croissant that came with it had me lost for words! It was hot and soft and was drizzled with a little bit of honey and let me tell ya, IT WAS GOOD. I wish they gave that to us in a little basket before anything else because I wanted another one. Entree: I ordered the Short Smoked Salmon with whole grain mustard sauce and seasonal mixed vegetables. Overall, the salmon was really juicy and moist, and you can flake it out. The whole grain mustard sauce tasted like dijon mustard to me and it was sweet, but really complimented the dish. I also squeezed lemon on it and it enhanced the flavor of the sauce. Other than that, you can definitely taste the smokiness in every bite. Other than the Short Smoked Salmon, my boyfriend ordered the Oven Roasted Chicken with mashed potatoes and baked beans. To be honest, I really wasn't a fan of the combo. As a first timer at Charleston's, the "Limited Availability" fine print by the menu item got my boyfriend intrigued and therefore thought that "Oh, limited availability means that it's sought after a lot." He liked it, but I'd stick to my Short Smoked Salmon. To be honest, it tasted like any rotisserie chicken that I can buy from Boston Market or something... (no offense). HOWEVER! The mashed potatoes really hit the spot for me. It was mixed with chives with a hint of garlic flavor and it was delicious. And going back to when I said I really wasn't a fan of the combo, I thought the baked beans that's paired with it was an interesting choice for a side... I would imagine beans as a side for a steak or any kind of beef, but not chicken. Moreover, the flavor of the baked beans was really bold and really tasted like they mixed it with a lot of barbecue sauce... so I really wasn't a fan of that. Bar: Sooooo, my check comprised mostly of what we ordered from the bar. We ordered 8 shots and it was normally priced at $8. But let me tell you, they poured the liquor whole! No watered down liquor or anything... it was straight out of the bottle and the portion! MY GOSH... for a single shot, it was a double. DOUBLE. Yea, let's end it at that. Overall, first time experience at this restaurant went really well and would come back!

I can't believe I hadn't yet reviewed Charleston's. This is, hands down, one of the best restaurants in Fort Worth. (And I was born here.) It is local for those who live near TCU, lucky ducks! But it is not hard to get to, and it is in a decent part of town. I love to split an order of their ribs, but whatever it is you order, you can't go wrong. They do not serve anything less than tasty, well-done dinners. And I've only ever had good service here! It is not exactly a casual restaurant. And quality comes with a cost. However, it's an ideal location for a hot date or any kind of celebration. They have a big sign on the outside, too, that is big and lit-up when there is "immediate seating" available, and I love it. There is typically plenty of seating. I really love this restaurant, and I can't wait to bring my boyfriend here! (Bah! Single again - 17 May 2014) Clean. Elegant. Tasty. Easy to get to. What else could you want?

This is what I would call..."regular food", otherwise known as American food. The menu is simple, burgers, salads, grilled fish, pork chops. I had the pork chops and mashed potatoes with baked beans. Excellent! I usually don't eat strangers' baked beans but these were good. I would usually order a burger, but I decided to think outside the bun and I'm glad I did. They also have some interesting drinks. Great service. I take away 1 star because they didn't have a lunch menu, so it was more than I wanted to eat for lunch and more than I wanted to pay. For dinner I would be fine with the price.

You know, I was impressively surprised by Charleston's, but stands to reason that no one else was -- the place was packed on a weekday lunchtime stop, and the staff for what it's worth didn't seem an iota surprised: they were relaxed yet on the hustle, and it wasn't too long until my lunch party was parked and sorting out a bite. Charleston's, I think it's safe to say, survives on a menu of solid semi-upscale staples, parsed when necessary but more so rotated in when the shift or occasion calls. Which sounds a little off-peak until you wander in like I did and discover untold delights. Well, this is the holidays, and I figure a little bit of pleasant surprise isn't a bad thing at all for most of us. In fact, you might gather it's even expected. Life's a funny bag, and I wouldn't for a second surmise that a drop in lunch that went particularly well was worthy of an arching overtone. But Charleston's might well help set an otherwise tilted day back on its axis, if you play it just right. And from where I sit, there's logic in that still.

This is my favorite place to eat but don't get to often enough. I try to visit anytime I am in S. Fort Worth. I love the Chicken tenders as not peppery and both crisp and juicy. I had the Mahi tonight and well prepared. I also appreciate a place that can keep up with both my sons water drinking and my tea drinking (that's right, we have drinking problems). This is a great all around restaurant, have lunch with clients here and recipes for everyone. They have one of the best side salads around. Great stop before heading to Colonial with friends or later with family. The seating is very comfortable but the open nature of the seating makes it noisy from all the people. Hard to go and there not be a crowd so you might call ahead.

My wife and I took my visiting parents here because we had heard good things and it's close by. From start to finish, this was among the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long time (my folks echoed this sentiment). Impeccable service (drinks were never empty, plates were cleared quickly), great food (best Chicken Parmigiana my wife has had in a while), and enormous portions. In fact, the portions are so large that two adults splitting a single plate would be completely reasonable. Yes, it's pricier than other chains, but the value is so much better because of the ambience, service, and food quality. Larger, kitschier chain restaurants have entrees running from $9-$18 and Charleston's offerings range from $12-$25 (if memory serves). Not a big difference for the significant bump in overall quality. We'll be back...frequently.

charleston's was an overall good experience. for the type of food offered i thought it was a bit pricey especially for something as simple as chicken strips. it was a pretty busy restaurant when a friend and i had dinner here one weekend. the service was great even after our waitress ended her shift and a new waiter took over our area. although the dining area looks romantic with the dim lighting and dark wood finishes, it was fairly noisy. i can't say that it's the first place that i'll think of when i'm in the area but a great alternative if you want to stay away from the places located closer to the mall.

Yes-I've branched out a little bit from the west end chicken a few times... Charlestons! your ribs are so yummy! so tender! the california sandwich is so good! and huge. Chicken salad..ohhhh yes. Caesar salad----YUM. Croissants that are so bad for you----YUM x 2. everything is good, consistant, and a great place to keep going back to. Oh-and the servers are always VERY nice and they are talkative when you ask them questions. They never, ever...well, almost ever, let your glass get empty. Sometimes you even have too many glasses of tea waiting for you to drink. Note: They recently re-vamped the menu, and it's still good. They did take off the west end chicken (SAD) but will still usually make it for us, so that is always good. Also, the parmesan chicken is delicious, especially that little salad that comes with it.

So Charleston's was a strong contradiction to me when it came to what to expect when sitting down. The entire restaurant is decorated in dark, rich hardwoods, the staff dressed in all black, and the interior darkened- no matter the time of day. Then there's the menu and it consists of nothing but comfort food that I would never expect from the surroundings. The menu is relatively small, comprised of maybe 20 to 25 choices total, and has a rotating soup of the day choice. So our service was, well, confusing... Our server seemed to be very aware of our drink refill needs and was attentive, but its like if the training program at the restaurant involves brainwashing of some assortment. No matter who the person was that approached the table to drop off appetizers, drinks, or entrees, we thanked every single one of the people that brought it. Literally, every person that brought something (which was like at least four different ones), gave us absolutely no response, no smile, no "You're Welcome." Their facial expressions never changed. It was as if they were programmed to be expressionless and socially removed. Thank goodness we didn't order the Kool-aid for drinks! The food was decent at best... My chicken sandwich was a bit dry and greasy and my date's ribs were alright, but her chicken tenders a bit overcooked. The portion sizes look huge and like they justify the price, but it reality, it was just a ton of fries piled on the plate around the sandwich. Same with my date's combination plate: we must have had nearly a pound of fries each! Suffice to say, we took a lot to go, though mostly fries. For the quality of the meal for the price, I guess its about what could be expected. For the casual diner, not a bad place to try out, but for us, probably not a repeat trip before we continue to make our rounds through the Metroplex...

Most of the comments here get it correct, good quality, huge portions, and reasonably priced for what you're getting. What I would add is that the kids menu has a couple of gems, in particular the kid's steak. It's reasonable at $6 or $6.50 and is a great cut of meat, and plenty large for a 10-year old boy that likes steak from time to time, particularly when he comes to Charleston's. We're fans of the place, patronize it once every other month or so, and have yet to be disappointed in the food or the service. Again, not cheap but priced well for what you get.

My friends and I are in love with place!! Their pork chop (2 HUGE pork chops with sides) is one of the best I've ever had and the service is always great!! Any of their sides are good as well. Servers are not static and cooperate with each other, so any and all servers are always taking care of the guests. When we had to wait for a little longer to get an appetizer served one time (which we didn't even think that we were waiting long because we were enjoying talking with friends), the manager came right away and informed us that the appetizer would be on them due to the wait which was about 15-20 minutes. Also, their orange juice is freshly squeezed in-house! Oh and the margaritas are AMAZING!!!!!! They are so smooth, and fresh I love them!

From the hostess that was the complete opposite of "I love my job", to the server that never refilled my tea, or bothered to ask if we needed much of anything but our food, Charleston's truly disappointed me. The smoked salmon was good, not $19 good, but had a nice smokey flavor and a chipotle flavored tarter sauce that I enjoyed. Dad was less than satisfied with his $14 chicken fried steak. He said "I wouldn't give .14 cents for it!" We won't be back. It's too bad because the crescent rolls with honey butter are delish! :(

This place sets the standard in what service should be! The prices are a little bit high, but the food and level of service make it well worth while. I've been a couple times and i've had steak (best i've ever had) and a country fried chicken (which wasn't even on the menu) The glazed carrots are amazing! Im not much of a salad person, but i couldn't get enough of it! Like I said earlier, the service is amazing! They work in teams, so your glass never goes empty, and your food never waits in the kitchen for your waiter to come and get it. The Charleston's franchise has quickly been added to my list of favorite restaurants.

On a business trip to Texas this week and I was craving roasted chicken. I first went to Charleston's in Arizona and it has become my favorite for their chicken and rib combo. Absolutely incredible garlic roasted to perfection, ribs that just fall off the bone. Then to end the night I always get the key lime pie, it is some of the best I've ever had. Probably a million calories for the pie but once in a while it's worth it once in a while. Love this place

This is the best place to get steaks. I moved to California about 6 years ago and have tried many foods there. Texas still has the best steaks and Charleston's has always been a favorite of mine since 1999. Service is always satisfying. At Charleston's they really serve their customers well. Not on the menu, but ask for the Hawaiian Sirlon Steak.

First, great atmosphere--like a more intimate BJ's Brewhouse. I think another reviewer mentioned being attended to by multiple servers and we had the same experience--I think we encountered about 4 different servers before our dinner was complete. Here's why this place is only 3 stars for us and not really worth venturing to again: Me: reuben sandwich with fries *very bland--the sauerkraut did not have any real taste and neither did the thousand island dressing (which appeared to be from scratch); I asked for spicy mustard to dip the sandwich into and the best they had was dijon *fries were the best part: crispy exterior, soft interior Husband: grilled pork chop dinner with mashed potatoes and smokehouse beans *pork chops under seasoned and pretty fatty *beans pretty good *mashed potatoes were the best part They were pretty busy (and this was a Tues night) and the server didn't ask us if we wanted dessert-just dropped off the bill. Overall, it was fun to try out a new place but I can get a much better reuben sandwich elsewhere.

One word...The SALMON! Oh My Goodness with those Garlic Mashed Potatoes, OH MY!! The OVEN ROASTED CHICKEN, potatoes and baked beans are to die-for as well. And of course, WALT'S CHAMPAGNE CHICKEN SALAD is not going to be left off the list, yummy as it gets! Oh, and try the Herbal Vinagarette if you have a starter salad or side salad, it's unique from most restaurants who have Balsamic only. If it's cold outside the Potato Soup is right up there too!! Or even if it's not cold! :~)

Wish they still had their original prime rib sandwich. Instead of a whole piece of prime rib (special) it's now "shaven prime rib" (ho hum and you get less) and you pay 3 dollars more. Still the croissants are addictive!

I spent a full day apartment hunting and was nearly delirious when I wandered into Charleston's. The menu had a lot of tasty looking options and I went with the chicken fried steak, because after all, I was in Texas. It was sooooo delicious. Also a ridiculously large portion. I was a little disappointed that the one healthy thing on my plate (carrots) was glazed in something sugary, but at least it tasted good. This is the only restaurant I've been to where the house salad is like a cobb salad (bacon, egg, croutons, cheese). And oh my, the buttery sweet croissant that came with the salad was heavenly.

This is a consistently good place to eat. Service can be a bit spotty, but it has large, tasty portions. Of particular note are the barbeque baby-back ribs (beef), chicken tenders, caesar salads, and the coissants (which are sweet and delicious). I really like that you can substitute out the sides which come with each meal (usually two) as I really like the garlic mashed potatoes and the coleslaw - but that's just me. A disappointing beer selection, but there is a patio which on a moderately cool evening can be quite pleasant although it overlooks Hulen.

Charlestons used to be a great place to eat when I first went there back in the early 90's and it still has pretty good service at lunch time. During the past few years, however, the management has instituted some changes in service policy that make eating at Charlestons an almost unbearable experience. Don't get me wrong. The food is still good enough to warrant an occasional visit, but the waitpersons have apparently been taught to treat the customers with incredible rudeness. In fact, these waitpersons have become the rudest young people I've ever experienced anywhere. Apparently, they've been trained by their managers to interrupt the customers constantly with unsolicited additional glasses of iced tea and constant interruptions of unnecessary questions. For example, when you first arrive, there are a minimum of four young ladies who greet you at the podium with a loud and aggressive chorus of "Good evening! Will there be two of you for dinner?" Being greeted this way is so ridiculous that it's actually funny! This chorus of greetings reminds one of going to a brand new McDonald's back in 1970 when there were obviously not enough customers yet and the management had trained all the counter help to shout out "May I help you?" simultaneously toward any customer who was unfortunate enough to open the door. Back to Charlestons, once you get past the hilarious gauntlet of greeters, one of the hostesses then takes you to your table. When you sit down, a waitress or waiter immediately asks you what you want to drink and then tells you about all the specials. After you ask for something to drink, like iced tea, the waitperson immediately tries to push the many fattening hors d'oevres. Assuming you convince them that you really don't want anything extra, they let you place your order and the food usually arrives fairly quickly. However, if you thought you were actually going to be able to eat in peace with your companion, forget it. Every 2 minutes, a waitperson will interrupt you with more glasses of iced tea that you don't need or want or with a constant series of questions about whether everything is OK or whether you want anything else. It is impossible to have any kind of conversation with your dinner companions because in addition to the extra iced tea glasses appearing every few minutes, and the constant barage of questions, there are also arms reaching between you constantly to bring the aforementioned multiple glasses of tea or to retrieve your salad bowls, bread plates, or whatever other excuse they can use as an interruption. I've actually been holding a sandwich in my hand when the aggressive waitpersons have grabbed my plate off the table. Tonight, I had partially eaten my salad when the waitperson grabbed the bowl and took it away without asking me if i was finished with it. In short, the service at this restaurant is HORRIBLE!!!! Yes, I've complained to the manager in the past, but he said that these changes were "corporate policy." Interestingly, my husband and I have eaten out at excellent restaurants all over Ft. Worth and we have NEVER been treated as rudely by the waitpersons at any other restaurant. Maybe Charlestons will consider changing its policy of interruptions if Yelp stimulates a response.

This review is based on one experience so I can't say the food is always this good. I ordered the salmon and it was easily the best fish I have ever eaten. It tasted fresh, was cooked perfectly and the side mustard sauce was a great compliment to the salmon. Will go again next time I am in the Fort Worth area.

Waitstaff was very courteous. Christine was a great server and answered all of our questions and gave the evening a personal touch. Elegant restaurant and very hearty food. I really enjoyed and highly recommend the fried oysters. My fiancee and I split the 20 oz rib eye and it was cooked perfectly. Thank you for a great evening!

Just around the corner, but whether you live in the neighborhood or not, it's a great destination. Friendly, competent staff, and probably the best salad and soup prep I've ever experienced (seriously, how often due you remember the plain soup and salads of the restaurants you visit? I go to Charlestons just for the potato soup sometimes.) The menu items are pricier than most chains you might have a family dinner at, but the quality of food means you will never regret paying a few dollars more. Steaks and fish entrees are among the best I've ever had, and you have a high bar of quality to meet when you cook meat in Texas. If you aren't usually a fish person, try the grilled salmon here, and you might just change your mind. The ambiance is good, classic and dim, even if the building gets a bit loud with meal rush capacity. Still, it isn't as raucous as a full sports bar.

Great place, limited menu, and everything is awesome! The must try is the shrimp cargot.... Just order it!!!! The steaks are fresh, LOVE LOVE LOVE their ranch dressing. The sides are very good, and don't you dare get out of there without trying their honey butter croissants!! Place is dark, quite, reasonably priced with a cool low key bar area. Service is always great. I truly cannot find one thing wrong with this place. So why not 5 stars? Because only the truly remarkable gets 5, but this place is a solid 4.5 stars.

We tried Charleston's for the first time last night! After driving past it a thousand times we decided to give it a try, and we're so glad we did. We didn't know what to expect going in. The atmosphere was more upscale than we were expecting, but still laid back. The hostesses were very quick to seat us and polite. The service was top knotch. We had numerous members of the waitstaff serving us. The manager came over after our meal and made sure we had enjoyed everything, and we had. We had the catfish plate and the parm chicken. Both delicious! My favorite thing was the mozarella and tomato salad with field greens that came with my parm chicken. It was the star of my plate. The waiter suggested that I sub the pasta for mashed potatoes, and I regret that I didn't follow his instruction. Lesson learned for next time. I think I would have enjoyed the dish with potatoes over the pasta. The coleslaw on the catfish plate was good and tasted fresh. The tartar sauce wasn't outstanding. All in all, we will return eventually. May not be a regular restaurant on our list, but still two thumbs up!

We've at at Charleston's several times before. It's a nice casual place with a date night atmosphere. They've gone up in price over the last few years. I've had their steaks, pork chops, chicken and fish. I've always liked their steaks. Loved their pork chops. This last time we came I got the half roasted chicken and wasn't very thrilled with it. Not flavorful or moist at all. However, everything I've had other than that has been good. They did have a chicken plate that had the chicken smothered in havarti cheese on it. It was sooo good, but they took it off the menu. Service can be slow here. They also have a gluten free menu.

I've only been here twice, but I like Charleston's. There are a lot of yummy items on the menu, and I'm eager to go back to Charleston's to try them all! Both of my visits have been with staff members, so I've been able to see some of the different lunch items they serve. On my most recent visit I got the chicken fried steak. By the by, the portions here are huge!I I had enough to take half home for dinner. My chicken fried steak was tender, flavorful, and I loved the crunchy - cheery breaking. The chicken fried steak is served with glazed carrots and mashed potatoes. So yummy! The mashed potatoes are rustic style with little bits of potato skin, and the carrots are sweet but not too sweet. I was surprised at how much I liked the glazed carrots. I could eat those over and over. I also tried a croissant and it was soft and buttery. My coworkers rave about the baked potato soup! I had it the last time I visited and it was really good. It is creamy and thick with bits of potato, and it is topped with a cute little mound of green onions, bacon, and cheese. There is a lunch option you can do where you get soup and salad, and it's a decent size bowl of soup and decent sized salad. The sandwiches are also big enough for you to eat half and take the other half home. The chicken avocado club is yummy also. The service is also great. Our server was really friendly, attentive, and even made us laugh! He also asked us if we wanted drinks to go, which I thought was a nice touch. I will definitely be back!

The lunch portion of trout was delicious but I did not like the green beans side. They were the crunchy type that I don't like. The rice was fair but nothing special. It's been a while since I've been here and I forgot to get a table instead of a booth. The booths are too high for me. My feet don't touch the ground. I have had better food here than I had today. They don't have a lunch menu only lunch portion fish. I normally like it here but disappointed in lunch.

Charlestons is a great place for a business lunch or dinner, or a date night. The atmosphere is very nice but casual. You wouldn't feel out of place in a suit here, or even shorts at lunchtime. The menu ranges from standard American classics to Italian, to seafood. Something definitely for everyone. On the last occasion I went, I had the Champagne Chicken salad, instead of Chicken though, I had Salmon (this was recommended by our waiter). It was probably the most filling salad I have ever had. It was full of fruit and feta, and came with a hefty portion of Salmon on top. Service was great as well, and prices seemed reasonable for what you get. Everyone in our group of 7 mentioned how good their food was. Portions are very generous. Looking forward to eating here again!

I've been meaning to write this review for a while, but really dislike negativity and leaving one stars, but this place deserves it. When we walked in we were greeted by the manageress, who wanted to seat us inside, but we asked if we could sit outside. This was a problem for her and told us to just walk outside and look for ourselves as it was open seating. We waited a while for service to come to us, who proceeded with our drinks order but forgot to bring the menus. We can deal with slow service on a very busy night, but this was a week night and not overly busy. When we ordered and our food arrived I wasn't happy with the chicken fried steak and sent it back, asking for something different. The waiter was okay about this but the manager brought out my new dish and approached the table and said 'oh it's you'. She was very condensing and rude. Our waiter became very lax, forgot our second drink order and just threw the bill at us, he had no interest, he then came back to say he had given us the wrong bill and charged our card at the higher amount before we even checked the bill. I was very dissatisfied with this restaurant and wouldn't recommend it, due to the poor service and rude manager.

Charleston's has always been one of my favorite dining establishments. What's impressive to me is the wait staff the restaurant hires. They're all incredible servers. I love the atmosphere and the menu. For lunch I ordered their Reuben Sandwich accompanied by their homemade cole slaw. The sandwich was almost TOO much to handle by myself. Charleston's is a great restaurant for either lunch or dinner! You can't go wrong by stopping in.

Food is okay. However, it is so loud - too many screaming children. The last (and it will be the LAST) time we were there, we arrived early for dinner and were seated. Then a very young couple with 2 toddlers were seated right next to us despite there being plenty of empty tables. The kids kept shrieking and banging on the table/highchair. The parents did nothing and the staff did nothing. We asked our waitress to move us. She disappeared, finally came back, said we would have to wait. They then moved us next to a crying baby (out of spite?) The prices are kind of high for a McDonald's atmosphere. This was a week night - maybe another time would have been better, but I don't want to risk it.

Pretty traditional "we do everything" pad site restaurant on Hulen near TCU. 4-5 starters, 4-5 salads, 3-4 fish, chicken and steak dishes. Charleston scan get crowded, so we went early (5:30) for our party of 6 and got right in. Pretty stable wine and beer selection. I had a Shiraz waiting for my party, not too good, tasted like bottle had been open for quite some time. The menu has something for everyone, and the service and promptness of the food coming out of the kitchen was fantastic. I had a 8 oz top sirloin that was cooked well, but not a high quality piece of meat. For entree and dessert, it's going to run $30-$35 per person, which is not bad in today's restaurant scene. Portions are pretty big, so be prepared to share or take home the proverbial doggy bag. There is a nice cozy bar just off the hostess desk that makes a nice destination if you have to wait for your table. Seems like a great place to bring family (including kiddo's) for dinner, and everyone will walk out full and satisfied.

I haven't been to this place in about 20 years now. I ordered the chicken tenders which in my opinion could be a lot better. The glazed carrots are exceptionally good! The Southwest beans are really good too! For dessert, I got the apple cobbler which in my opinion, could be a whole lot better for the price. In my opinion, they need more ice cream on top of the apple cobbler to wake up the flavor of the apple cobbler so you won't be disappointed in the dull taste that is has to it. The ice cream was really good though. Service is still good there. I may or may not be back at all. I'm not 100 percent certain at this moment.

I visit Fort Worth frequently so I'm always looking for a good steak in Texas. One of my local co-workers highly recommended Charlestons for steak. I read the reviews and it looked like a winner. Sadly, it was a big disappointment. I had the 10 oz. Sirloin (I don't like a side of beef on a plate) and it was - honestly - worse than Outback. The meat was of poor quality (sorry to gross you out, but I couldn't chew and swallow it was so gristly, so much was left on my plate). The flavor was not cardboard, but close. In short, very disappointing. If they can't do a simple cut of meat adequately, then there's gotta be problem. Don't see how they get all the rave reviews.

All in all, our experience was very good. The food and service were great. My only complaint was that we had reservations and there was still a 20+ minute wait to get seated. I realize that things can be unpredictable in the restaurant biz, and it did not help that there were two parties of 10 or more so that didn't work in our favor. After we were seated, things took a definite upturn. Forrest, our server, was very efficient. I had the Walt's Champagne Chicken Salad, w/o croutons, which was delicious. I typically like more veggies in my salad but this was nice for a change. It had pineapple, dates, strawberries, sunflower seeds, pineapple, feta, spiced pecans and chicken. The chicken had a slight smokey flavor which was great. I also had them put the dressing on the side because salads swimming in dressing is NOT my thing. There could have been a tad more feta but what was a pleasant surprise were the dates. Dates are not my fav but these were smaller & not near as sugary. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with fries and the Texas Chili as an appetizer. He really enjoyed the sandwich and liked the chili however he prefers more beans in his chili. Our friends shared the Parmesan Crusted Chicken and they enjoyed their meal, commenting how good it was. All in all, I would go again however I do wish they had more healthy options. I am gluten-free, by choice, and there weren't very many choices...IMHO. I also like heathy vegetable dishes without all of the sauces, etc. Charleston's is more like Southern home cooking. Nothing against that, just not my thing.

My wife and I went to Charleston's last night. We were pretty happy with the good and service. We had a 5 minute wait and were promptly seated. Ordering went well except for a few issues My wife cannot have pork and mentioned this to the server. When she ordered the New England Clam Chowder, he didn't mention the bacon that was in the soup. I ordered a Prime Rib - medium. It came out red - cooked basically rare. Sent it back and it was cooked properly at that point. I believe the manager brought that back to our table. Bread pudding we ordered to go with us and tried a bit before we left. It was ok - nothing amazing. Overall this place was good but nothing that amazed me. I would definitely go back but not a "special" place.

Another reviewer noted that the service is "hit or miss," and that sums up our recent experiences. We've been to Charleston's many, many times, but noticed on our last few visits that there was a tremendous rush to get us out the door. Our wound-up waiter Forrest promised to give us "extra time" to get a look at the menu and decide if we'd have appetizers or not, but kept bugging us every 3-4 minutes. Finally I decided to order a drink, and suddenly he was nowhere to be found. Once we flagged him down - gabbing with a larger party nearby, hence bigger tip - we ordered drinks and food, and asked for the food order to please be delayed. Of course, that didn't happen - everything arrived at once, so I had to choose between a cold entree and watered-down drink. As soon as the food was on the table, he was interrupting constantly. "How's that tasting? How's that tasting? How's that tasting?" My chicken was overcooked and I said so, but he made no effort to bring me anything different. We asked him to please TAKE A BREATH and give us a minute, and again he made no effort to slow his roll. Scott, the manager, is always helpful, but I don't think the he understood why I was so frustrated, and I don't think the idea of customer service always trickles down to the wait staff. Was very sick the next day after eating the chicken. I've always loved Charleston's and I want to go back, but it's going to take awhile for me to get over my fear of being run over at 100 miles an hour.

I really can't believe I haven't tried Charlestons sooner. Delicious, upscale, comforting food. Walked in on a weekday for lunch and the place was pretty crowded. We were greeted and seated very quickly in a nice, comfy booth. The ambiance is a bit dark but very classy. I glanced over the wine menu quickly and the selection seemed decent. The menu is homey, American food featuring burgers, salads, protein entrees with your standard sides, soups and limited appetizers. Nothing seemed to really catch my eye so I opted for a Salmon Caesar Salad, salmon cooked med rare, and the friend got a Chicken Fried Steak. The salmon was cooked perfectly - tender and juicy, and had some kind of sauce on it. My salad came with a warm buttery croissant. I wish we got a basket full of them. There was some sort of honey drizzled on top. Heavenly. I'm assuming the chicken fried steak was amazing as well since nothing was left on the plate. Service seemed rushed, but still attentive and friendly. Parking wasn't an issue. I'm not wowed by the food but it's good quality so I'll probably be back.

Really nice place - dim, comfortable atmosphere would be great for a date I imagine. Food was surprisingly good - and came in larger portions than expected. A croissant came w the caesar salad and was delicious -- best I've ever had actually, tho I don't know if they always come fresh from the oven. Salad was too peppery for my liking tho, but still good. The pork chops were very thick and quite hefty, very good overall. The mashed potatoes looked fancy, and I suppose they were good but just didn't work for me. The glazed carrots on the other hand were as amazingly superb as the croissant was. I'll definitely be getting those again! I would have liked to have tried a fish item but the soup follows a daily plan -- I'll have to come back on a Friday to try the clam chowder. And unfortunately tilapia was the fish of the day, which would have been great, but not at $22.... I'll be returning soon to try the other options though as there are a number of tasty sounding menu items.

I have eaten here many times, lunch, dinner, weekday, weekend. It has always been perfect. The menu is wonderful. Their Prime Rib is as good as any Fort Worth, and that's saying a lot. Service has always been attentive, plesant, and as much the crowd allows at a good pace. I have worked in restaurants in New York City, I know the drill.... CHARLESTON'S is top of the class, handling their crowds. IF you haven't had their Potato Soup, or glazed carrots you have twin delights awaiting you. BELIEVE ME, you will not find BETTER ANYWHERE. My nephews swear by the chicken fried stea, again a Fort Worth staple and they do it very well. The house salad is special. there is a spot on the upper level that can get loud, but I find the seating very comfortable. Don't "buy" the negative comments, try them for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

There were 6 of us, and we had called ahead to make sure there wouldn't be a problem seating us without notice and were told it would be just fine. But as soon as I told her we were a party of 6, she copped this big attitude...as if it were a big inconvenience for us to come into the restaurant in such a large group. I'm pretty sure the more people who come to dine, the more money the restaurant makes... The prime rib I ordered was cold to the touch, but our waitress cultivated a somewhat hostile environment so I didn't feel comfortable sending it back. When my sister asked if there were free refills on iced tea the server responded "if you order another one" in a snotty tone. Lots of little things like that added up quickly to make my birthday dinner a lot less enjoyable. Food was high quality for what I could tell of my other guests' dishes. Just wish the staff had been more welcoming.

Service is hit or miss! Tonight the pork chops were OVER dry and they failed to include my dessert in my to go order! When I called I was put in hold for too long! Big Fail by bar staff, kitchen and management! Decent food if you need good Togo food! The salad with strawberries, pineapple and chicken are to die for! So are the croissants!

It was my first time here for a friend's birthday celebration and overall, the restaurant is really good! The atmosphere and the layout really reminded me of Hillstone in Dallas-- the booths, dimmed/dark surroundings, candle-lit, and how you can see the prep area and the kitchen right by the dining area. It was not a busy night so our servers were pretty attentive to our party of about 20 people... however, we were seated 20 minutes late from the original reservation time because our table was not ready. Price: averagely priced menu items. Entree is about $15-$20/person. Appetizer: I opt out from their appetizer list and just ordered a cup of baked potato soup. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but definitely full of flavor! Also, my entree came with the house salad and oh my gosh, the croissant that came with it had me lost for words! It was hot and soft and was drizzled with a little bit of honey and let me tell ya, IT WAS GOOD. I wish they gave that to us in a little basket before anything else because I wanted another one. Entree: I ordered the Short Smoked Salmon with whole grain mustard sauce and seasonal mixed vegetables. Overall, the salmon was really juicy and moist, and you can flake it out. The whole grain mustard sauce tasted like dijon mustard to me and it was sweet, but really complimented the dish. I also squeezed lemon on it and it enhanced the flavor of the sauce. Other than that, you can definitely taste the smokiness in every bite. Other than the Short Smoked Salmon, my boyfriend ordered the Oven Roasted Chicken with mashed potatoes and baked beans. To be honest, I really wasn't a fan of the combo. As a first timer at Charleston's, the "Limited Availability" fine print by the menu item got my boyfriend intrigued and therefore thought that "Oh, limited availability means that it's sought after a lot." He liked it, but I'd stick to my Short Smoked Salmon. To be honest, it tasted like any rotisserie chicken that I can buy from Boston Market or something... (no offense). HOWEVER! The mashed potatoes really hit the spot for me. It was mixed with chives with a hint of garlic flavor and it was delicious. And going back to when I said I really wasn't a fan of the combo, I thought the baked beans that's paired with it was an interesting choice for a side... I would imagine beans as a side for a steak or any kind of beef, but not chicken. Moreover, the flavor of the baked beans was really bold and really tasted like they mixed it with a lot of barbecue sauce... so I really wasn't a fan of that. Bar: Sooooo, my check comprised mostly of what we ordered from the bar. We ordered 8 shots and it was normally priced at $8. But let me tell you, they poured the liquor whole! No watered down liquor or anything... it was straight out of the bottle and the portion! MY GOSH... for a single shot, it was a double. DOUBLE. Yea, let's end it at that. Overall, first time experience at this restaurant went really well and would come back!

I can't believe I hadn't yet reviewed Charleston's. This is, hands down, one of the best restaurants in Fort Worth. (And I was born here.) It is local for those who live near TCU, lucky ducks! But it is not hard to get to, and it is in a decent part of town. I love to split an order of their ribs, but whatever it is you order, you can't go wrong. They do not serve anything less than tasty, well-done dinners. And I've only ever had good service here! It is not exactly a casual restaurant. And quality comes with a cost. However, it's an ideal location for a hot date or any kind of celebration. They have a big sign on the outside, too, that is big and lit-up when there is "immediate seating" available, and I love it. There is typically plenty of seating. I really love this restaurant, and I can't wait to bring my boyfriend here! (Bah! Single again - 17 May 2014) Clean. Elegant. Tasty. Easy to get to. What else could you want?

My favorite restaurant! Everything on their menu is the best! Best burger, ribs and pasta in town. If you like garlic I recommend the shrimp scampi pasta. Great service never have to look for a waiter or wait for a drink refill. Tip: order a loaf of free bread. You have to ask for it.

This is what I would call..."regular food", otherwise known as American food. The menu is simple, burgers, salads, grilled fish, pork chops. I had the pork chops and mashed potatoes with baked beans. Excellent! I usually don't eat strangers' baked beans but these were good. I would usually order a burger, but I decided to think outside the bun and I'm glad I did. They also have some interesting drinks. Great service. I take away 1 star because they didn't have a lunch menu, so it was more than I wanted to eat for lunch and more than I wanted to pay. For dinner I would be fine with the price.

You know, I was impressively surprised by Charleston's, but stands to reason that no one else was -- the place was packed on a weekday lunchtime stop, and the staff for what it's worth didn't seem an iota surprised: they were relaxed yet on the hustle, and it wasn't too long until my lunch party was parked and sorting out a bite. Charleston's, I think it's safe to say, survives on a menu of solid semi-upscale staples, parsed when necessary but more so rotated in when the shift or occasion calls. Which sounds a little off-peak until you wander in like I did and discover untold delights. Well, this is the holidays, and I figure a little bit of pleasant surprise isn't a bad thing at all for most of us. In fact, you might gather it's even expected. Life's a funny bag, and I wouldn't for a second surmise that a drop in lunch that went particularly well was worthy of an arching overtone. But Charleston's might well help set an otherwise tilted day back on its axis, if you play it just right. And from where I sit, there's logic in that still.

The shrimp scampi was on point. I had a long island iced tea to drink. The waitress was friendly throughout dinner. I asked for bread pudding to go which was brilliant. I wouldn't mind coming back here.

Wow. A friend was in town and wanted barbecue. He found it through Yelp and saw the reviews. It's fantastic! Nice, comfortable and spacious space. Great wait staff. There were plenty of them and our server was very attentive. We had the baby back ribs and they were scrumptious. Big and satisfying serving. I will be back.

The service here is quick and friendly. Their food is good and portions are big enough to easily share. The crowd is fairly old so it always makes me feel young. Portions are very generous. I enjoy the baked potato soup, freshly cooked chunks of potatoes and crisp bacon. Their salads are also great.

This is my favorite place to eat but don't get to often enough. I try to visit anytime I am in S. Fort Worth. I love the Chicken tenders as not peppery and both crisp and juicy. I had the Mahi tonight and well prepared. I also appreciate a place that can keep up with both my sons water drinking and my tea drinking (that's right, we have drinking problems). This is a great all around restaurant, have lunch with clients here and recipes for everyone. They have one of the best side salads around. Great stop before heading to Colonial with friends or later with family. The seating is very comfortable but the open nature of the seating makes it noisy from all the people. Hard to go and there not be a crowd so you might call ahead.

The salmon completes me. Haha! It comes with the most delicious sauce, dill cucumbers, and veggies. To die for. (If seafood isn't your thing you HAVE to try the chicken club.) This place is a Fort Worth staple.
